PROMO: Cooties

POP Interview

Alison McCreery of Photographers on Photography interviewed me recently. Here's a taste

POP: Why did you decide to focus on kids?
A: Grown ups don’t like me. Well, that’s not true, a couple do—but I’m okay with that. First of all, kids are way more fun than grown-ups. When was the last time an adult stopped playing with a toy to pick their nose right out in the open or when have you ever made a grown-up so happy they literally started jumping right in front of you? I can’t resist kids. I could look past a grown-up but I see every kid on the street. I don’t know why that is.

Plus I have a lot of energy—too much for grownups I think. I run circles around them and kids react to this positively. Grown ups can’t keep up with me. My husband’s at least two days behind.

Fitness Magazine

Mostly I shoot kids. But I make an exception when the grown-ups are cool. This group of women definitely qualify!

An Agent

Finding and choosing a rep is hard—really hard! It was easier to find my husband actually. Of course I wore a lot more skirts ten years ago.

So I've been approached by seven reps over the past few months. All wonderful reps! But one stood out over the others—and I'm happy to announce that I've signed with Tracy Bennett Stewart of Zero2Sixty here in Boston. Just what I need is another "marriage." No really, I mean it. It is just what I need. And a great agent-photographer relationship should feel like a healthy, happy, working marriage. I think I've found that with Tracy.

PDN Photo Annual 2011

PDN has posted the 2011 winners. I'm not just in good company, I'm in great company. There's a lot of beautiful work to see here. Take a look.

I was crazy to do all the photography, the producing, the styling, the designing and the writing [ Kim Lowe ] but I was at least smart enough to leave the interactive programming to this guy [ Sean Sullivan ]

WEBSITE Book One

"Kids photographer Kim Lowe just uploaded a new portfolio to her web site. Titled "Book One," the book features crisp, colorful images of children at play in the sun and snow. Her use of color, props and composition create beautiful images that preserve the playfulness and curiosity of childhood without relying on nostalgia to incite emotion."

I would never have been able to characterize my work in such a beautiful way. Thank you Barbara Goldman of PDN/Photoserve.
